The Articles of Association of the IMCJ defines Management Consultancy as:
The service provided by an independent and qualified person or persons in, identifying and investigating problems concerned with the Policy, organization, procedures and methods of organisations and persons involved in Business and Economic ventures.

- Production
- Marketing
- Finance
- Personnel, Human Resource Development,
- Administration
and is able to assist in implementing such advice over a representative cross section of Industry, Commerce and Government.
Council of Management
The business of the Institute is managed by the Council of Management comprising members in good standing elected at the annual general meeting of the Institute to so serve. The numbers of the members of the council shall not be less than three or more than fifteen.
The Council, at its first meeting following an Annual General Meeting elects from amongst the members of Council:
- A President,
- A Deputy President now termed Vice-President
- A Treasurer
- A Secretary now termed Honorary Secretary
